Allyn Pivar, Psy.D.
Dr. Ali Pivar is a NY state licensed psychologist. She holds an undergraduate degree in sociology and psychology from Connecticut College and a Doctorate in School-Clinical Child Psychology from Pace University. Dr. Pivar has had a lifelong interest in mental health and well-being, emotional development, and interpersonal relationships. She completed her doctoral training working with adults in an out-patient university clinic and with children and adolescents in schools, in-patient hospitals and out-patient clinics, culminating in the completion of her pre-doctoral clinical internship at the Mount Sinai Adolescent Health Center. In all of these settings she conducted psycho-educational evaluations and individual and group psychotherapy. After completing her doctorate she participated in two NIH funded research studies providing dyadic and group therapy for children in foster care. She also works in private practice providing individual therapy for adults, specializing in anxiety disorders, trauma, and life transitions. While working from a psychodynamic perspective, Dr. Pivar integrates cognitive behavioral and interpersonal approaches based on the individual needs of each patient. She believes the most important aspect of therapy is the collaborative relationship between patient and therapist and focuses on providing a safe space for each patient to establish trust and feel comfortable exploring their inner world. Dr. Pivar’s research interests include early attachment, trauma and PTSD, and mind-body medicine. She is a member of the American Psychological Association and the Brooklyn Psychological Association.
