Community Outreach & Support at Interactive Discovery

For more than 18 years, Interactive Discovery has been deeply rooted in the Park Slope community, building strong partnerships with schools, families, and local organizations. We believe that mental health services should not only support individuals but also strengthen the fabric of our neighborhoods. Our work goes beyond therapy sessions, we actively engage with schools, participate in local events, and collaborate with healthcare providers and nonprofits to ensure that children, teens, and families have access to the resources they need to thrive.

As a certified Women-Owned Business Enterprise (WBE), Interactive Discovery is proud to be recognized for our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This designation expands our ability to partner with public agencies and schools that prioritize trauma-informed, culturally responsive care. It also affirms our leadership as a female-owned practice dedicated to ethical, evidence-based, and client-centered services.

Partnerships in Schools & the Community

We are proud to collaborate with many schools in Brooklyn, including PS 107, PS 321, Allied Achievement, Berkeley Carroll School, and Essence Middle School. Our services range from in-house counseling for students, to workshops and trainings for educators, to parent-focused groups that strengthen families and improve school-home connections.

Beyond the classroom, we are honored to participate in major community events such as the PS 107 Fall Festival and the PS 321 Spring Carnival, where we connect with families, provide resources, and celebrate the spirit of our neighborhood.

Our partnerships also extend to local healthcare providers and nonprofit organizations, including Tribeca Pediatrics, Slope Pediatrics, Catholic Charities, and the Jewish Board of Family and Children Services. These collaborations expand our reach and allow us to support families at different touchpoints in their care journeys.

Understanding Community Needs

Every school, organization, and community is unique. That’s why we begin each partnership by conducting a needs assessment, a collaborative process in which we meet with administrators, staff, parents, and sometimes students to identify the most pressing challenges and goals. This assessment helps us:

  • Understand the cultural and developmental context of the community.

  • Identify areas of concern, such as social-emotional regulation, bullying, bereavement, crisis response, or staff wellness.

  • Co-create tailored programming that aligns with the specific needs of the school or organization.

By taking the time to listen and understand, we ensure that the groups, workshops, and services we provide are relevant, responsive, and sustainable.

Why We Do This Work

At Interactive Discovery, our mission is to make mental health services accessible, inclusive, and integrated into the everyday lives of children and families. By conducting needs assessments, we ensure that each program is tailored, meaningful, and aligned with the goals of the community we serve.

Our WBE certification enhances our capacity to collaborate with schools, organizations, and public-sector partners, strengthening our ability to deliver inclusive and innovative mental health initiatives. It reflects our long-standing commitment to ethical leadership, diversity, and evidence-based practice.

Through our outreach efforts, Interactive Discovery strives to:

  • Build resilience in children, teens, and parents

  • Support teachers and school staff with trauma-informed practices

  • Create safe, inclusive spaces for dialogue and connection

  • Provide prevention-focused, family-centered, and culturally responsive care

By investing in both individual and community wellbeing, we aim to make our Brooklyn community, a place where every child and family feels supported, connected, and empowered to thrive.
