Art of Parenting specializes in the early stages of family planning and familial growth. AOP is available to come to other sites and offer services in English, Portuguese, and Spanish.
Melissa Malakoff, Psy.D.
Dr. Melissa Malakoff is a licensed clinical psychologist and has been part of the ID family since 2011. While at Interactive Discovery she provided individual therapy to children and adults as well as running a variety of groups. Since taking on the full time position as Chief Psychologist and Director of Psychology Education and Training at the The Quad Preparatory School, Dr. Malakoff continues to collaborate and work closely with Interactive Discovery. She serves as a consultant, takes part in peer supervision, and conducts workshops and trainings.
Dr. Malakoff holds a doctoral degree in clinical psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology and a Bachelor of Arts in psychology and sociology from Duke University. She is bilingual and conducts therapy in both English and Spanish. Aside from her strong focus on working with twice exceptional (2e) children and their families through The Quad Preparatory School, Dr. Malakoff specializes in working with young adults in the college and post-college phase of life. She also specializes in trauma-informed therapy, and her previous experience includes such work at NYU Langone Medical Center and Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego.
Ken Leeds, LCSW
Ken Leeds was born and raised in New York City. He is a Licensed Social Worker and is a graduate of New York University’s Silver School of Social Work. Ken is deeply and passionately interested in people and their relationships and he has diverse and extensive experience in the field of psychological and emotional health that reflects this ongoing interest. Ken’s long-term involvement in the field of mental health makes it possible for him to be particularly effective at relating to and identifying with diverse clients in various circumstances and stages of their lives. Ken is experienced in working with individuals, couples, families, and providing child therapy. His experience also includes working on an in-patient psychiatric unit (at Maimonides Hospital Community Mental Health Clinic) and on an in-patient drug and alcohol rehabilitation unit (at Regent Hospital). Ken also has wide-ranging experience with and draws deep satisfaction from his involvement with various approaches to meditation, relaxation methods and art therapy.
The visual arts, one of Ken’s passions, have been incorporated into his clinical work with his clients. His experience in this realm permits him to bring insight and great sensitivity into his work with individuals from creative backgrounds of all kinds as well as providing him with tools that he directly utilizes in his clinical work. Ken has been involved with the visual arts since he was a child. He studied Studio Art at the State University of New York at Binghamton and Brooklyn College and continued at Parsons School of Design and the School of Visual Arts. Ken is also a part-time art professor at Touro College and teaches courses in painting, drawing and modern art history. Ken’s enthusiasm and strong sense of purpose in providing empathic support, constructive inquiry and guidance to both his students and his clients has been greatly beneficial to them over the course of his career.
